Tribal Fusion

The Most Contemporary Side of Belly Dance

Dance with our teacher Alexandra Ferrie in this fused version of belly dance, made more modern and varied through elements from Indian dance, flamenco, African dances, and urban styles.

Originating in the 1960s, tribal-style belly dance includes several branches, especially American Tribal Style (ATS). In the 1990s, the ATS movement vocabulary expanded by taking elements from other dances and adapting the costume language. Music also broadened from traditional sounds to more modern styles, opening the door to a more creative, expressive, and theatrical form of tribal dance.
